Illinois Bicentennial Commission holds its first meeting

The Illinois Bicentennial Commission kicked off their work today as the first meeting was held at the Old State Capitol.

At the meeting, Governor Rauner and Bicentennial Office Executive Director Stuart Layne unveiled the official bicentennial logo. The navy and gold design with 21 gold stars represents Illinois’ entry as the 21st state in the union. The colors are a nod to the State of Illinois’ official seal.

Also at the meeting, the commission discussed plans, initiatives, and programs for the upcoming celebration of the State of Illinois.

“I am honored to be a part of this very special effort to recognize Illinois’ past,” said Sen. Althoff. “I can’t wait to get started with all the exciting endeavors planned to celebrate this great state of ours.”
